People say that the eyes are the window of the soul. That means that if you look through them you can kwow the feelings of whom you are looking to. But I don't know if it is true at all.

En español decimos una frase parecida, pero que no significa lo mismo. La traducción literal a la inglesa sería "los ojos son la ventana del alma". En cambio nuestra cultura popular ha "fabricado" una frase un poco distinta: "Los ojos son el espejo del alma". Aunque sólo cambia en una palabra ya es suficiente para cambiar en nivel de significado. Ya no es una ventana, algo que permite ver lo que hay detrás, ahora es un espejo, una masa opaca que devuelve la imagen.

And if the eyes are the mirror of the soul, then, the thing you can see if you look at them is not the soul like it is, is the reverse of the soul, the soul but in a false side, not the real feelings.
So, in Spanish, maybe the real meaning of this idiom is this: if you look to someone's eyes you will not see the feelings he/she is feeling, you will see the opposite of that feelings.
